If you need to replace the rim on your water softener, we're here to help! Let's go through the process together.
Tools Needed: Scissors or sharp tool & Pliers (optional)

Section 1 - Depressurize and Disconnect
1. First, you'll need to bypass the water softener by pushing the handle IN on the back of your unit. This will stop water from coming in or out of the softener while you work:
2. Go ahead and unplug the unit from the wall outlet.
3. To depressurize the unit, you'll need to hold the Recharge button until you hear the motor start to turn, then let go. The motor will stop after a few seconds. You'll see ‘Recharge Now’ or ‘Recharging’ flashing on the screen.
4. Press the Recharge button one time quickly. The motor will turn on, moving to the next cycle.
5. Keep repeating step 4 until the flashing 'Recharge' indicator disappears from your screen.
6. Now remove the top cover. If you need more detailed instructions, click here. At the next step you'll finish disconnecting the wiring.
7. It's time to disconnect the motor, sensor, and wire harness connections.
- Motor – unplug the thick black and red wires at the clear plastic connection piece.
- Switch – unplug the white plastic connector from the valve head at the end of the orange and green wires.
- Wire Harness – unclip the harness from around the outlet port.
8. Now you should be able to take the cover off fully and set it down. If your softener has a tank light, you'll need to pop the bulb out of the softener rim in order to remove the cover.
9. You'll need to remove the black C-clips from the softener/bypass connection at the back of the unit. Pull one side of the black plastic C-clip away from the softener, and slowly roll it towards the other side to remove.
***If the clips seem stuck, slowly and gently rock the softener back and forth slightly while applying pressure to the clip as described above to free them.
10. Now, go ahead and pull the softener away from the bypass assembly.
Section 2 - Disconnect the Valve Head
1. On the right-hand side of the unit, you'll disconnect the drain hose by releasing the black clip by pulling it up and out:
2. Now, you'll need to disconnect the brine hose from the venturi (cone part). Identify yours below.
- If you have a white nut attached, you'll need to unscrew it. Cut the hose on the left side of the nut, and pull the hose down through the rim from below.
- If your hose doesn't have that white nut, you'll need to push the small collet piece in and pull the hose out at the same time to remove.
3. You're ready to remove the large white clamps from the tank neck. Unhook the retainer clips that hold them together.
4. With both hands on the valve head, wiggle it side to side as you pull it up and off. Carefully set it to the side.
5. On the tube inside, you should check the position of the O-ring. It should sit about 1/4 inch down from the top.
6. Now, you're going to remove the rim/tray by unsnapping it from the tank.
Section 3 - Reassembling the Unit
1. When you're ready to reassemble, you'll want to make sure the resin tank inside is standing straight up and down (it shouldn't be at an angle).
2. Take your new rim and snap that into place.
3. Grab your valve head and rest it on top of the riser tube. You'll want to push down until it rests on the neck of the resin tank.
4. Time to put the large white tank clamps back on. You'll secure them with the clips around the neck.
5. You can reconnect the softener to the bypass assembly.
6. Now reattach the black C-clips.
7. Find the black brine hose we disconnected earlier. Guide the hose back through the hole on the new rim. The hose should come from the brinewell, up behind the resin tank, and through the hole on the left side of the rim.
8. Go ahead and reattach the brine hose to the venturi:
- Grab your ferrule nut, and push the end of the brine hose through the nut. Screw the white nut back on by twisting it clock-wise (use a pliers to twist it on lightly).
- Or insert the hose into the collet. You'll need to make sure to push it in until you notice some resistance. Then push it in a little further. The hose should be in about 5/8 of an inch.
9. You can reattach your drain hose to the back right side of the head now. Secure it with the black rectangular clip.
10. Reconnect the wires. The switch connection should have one exposed terminal/prong.
- Wire Harness - attach it around the Outlet port - this will only secure properly one way.
- Switch - connect onto the prong.
- Motor - connect at the plastic piece.
11. Pull the bypass handle back OUT to allow water flow through the unit again.
12. You're ready to plug the unit back into the wall outlet.
13. Go ahead and put your top cover back on the unit.
14. For the last steps here, you'll need to manually advance the softener just to check for leaks. Hold the Recharge button until you hear the motor turn on, then let go. You'll see ‘Recharge Now’ or ‘Recharging’ flashing on the screen.
15. Go ahead and press the Recharge button once to advance to the next cycle. Repeat this each time the motor stops until the flashing recharge indicator on the screen disappears, and the home screen returns. You're done! Great job!
