The valve drain hose is a the main discharge drain hose on your softener. The hose connection is located under the top cover of your system, behind the black rectangular motor on the valve head.
Push the handle in on the back of your unit. This will stop water from coming in or out of the softener while you work:
1. Remove the top cover to access the valve head:
a. On the back of the unit, unhook the two clips that hold the cover onto the tank below (see photo). Flex/pull the cover out and away from the system at these clips.
b. There are two similar clips holding the front of the cover on as well. Slide the cover towards you to release these clips, being careful not to disconnect any wires. It is normal for the plastic cover to produce some noise as it shifts and bends.
2. Locate the valve drain hose adaptor. This is a gray plastic elbow that sits behind the black rectangular motor on the valve head.
3. Remove the metal hose clamp and pull the hose away from the adaptor.
4. The drain hose adaptor is secured with a black square clip. Using your finger or a pliers, pull the clip straight up and out.
5. Pull the adaptor out from the valve head and set aside. Push the new adaptor into the port on the valve head.
6. Push the black rectangular clip securely onto the adaptor connection and give the adaptor a tug to confirm it is secure.
7. Push your drain hose firmly onto the adaptor and secure with the metal hose clamp.
8. Confirm your drain route does not exceed 8 ft vertically from the floor or 30 ft horizontally from the softener.
9. Check that your hose route has at least a 1-1/2 inch air gap at the drain mouth.
Note: Failing to meet drain hose requirements is the leading cause of excess water in the salt tank and hindered softening potential.
