The sediment screen applies to the following models: EP31, EP42, EPHS, EPHY. They have an internal sediment screen to capture visible particles like silt and sand. Depending on your water source and sediment coming in, you may need to clean the screen. Let's go through the steps below to get it cleared out!

Depressurize the Unit
1. First, you'll need to bypass the unit by pushing the handle in in the back of your unit. This will stop water flow through the system while you work.
2. Now, hold the Recharge button for about 3 seconds, or until you hear the motor start to turn. You'll see ‘Recharge Now’ or ‘Recharging’ flashing on the screen.
3. Go ahead and press the Recharge button one time quickly again.
4. You'll hear the motor turn on, moving to the next cycle. Continue to press the Recharge button quickly each time you hear the motor stop. Do this until the flashing ‘recharge’ indicator disappears from your screen.
Disassemble
1. Remove the top cover.
- On the back of the unit, unhook the two clips that hold the cover onto the tank below (see photo below). Flex/pull the cover out and away from the softener at these clips.
- There are two similar clips holding the front of the cover on as well. Slide the cover towards you to release these clips. Be careful not to disconnect any wires. It's normal for the plastic cover to produce some noise as it shifts and bends.
2. Go and unplug the power supply from the outlet.
3. You'll need to disconnect the electronic connections from the top of the unit:
-
- Motor – unplug the thick black and red wires at the clear plastic connection piece.
- Switch – unplug the white plastic connector at the end of the orange and green wires.
- Wire Harness – unclip the harness from around the outlet port.
4. Now, remove the black C-clips from the bypass connection. You'll pull one side of the black plastic C-clip away from the unit, and slowly roll it towards the other side to remove it.
Note: If the clips seem stuck, slowly and gently rock the unit back and forth slightly while applying pressure to the clip while you try to remove.
5. Once they're off you can pull the unit away from the bypass assembly.
6. You'll need to remove the large white clamps from the tank neck by unhooking the retainer clips that hold them together.
7. Now, with both hands on the valve head, carefully wiggle it side to side as you pull it up and off.
Clean the Filter Screen & Reassemble
1. Look down inside the tank and identify the filter screen.
2. Remove the screen and rinse with warm, soapy water.
3. Then you can reinstall the filter screen.
4. Check the position of the small o-ring on the riser tube. It should sit about ¼ inch down from the top of that white tube. Make sure that it's on correctly before putting the unit back together.
5. You can carefully place the valve head back onto the riser tube and push down until it rests on the tank.
6. Reassemble the large white tank clamps and secure with clips around the neck.
7. Reconnect the unit to the bypass assembly and attach the black C-clips.
8. Reconnect the wires you disconnected earlier: Wire Harness, Switch, and Motor.
9. You can now plug the unit back into the power supply.
10. Make sure to take the system off bypass by pulling the valve back OUT.
11. Check the unit to see if you notice any leaks.
12. Lastly, you'll want to go check multiple softened faucets to make sure water pressure has been restored. You're good to go!
