Water Softeners and Central Water Filtration Systems use water to regenerate and backwash, which requires water flow and pressure. If a water treatment unit is installed before the pressure tank, it will not work properly, for a few reasons:
- The unit will not receive a steady, adequate water supply, because water will be flowing through it only when the well pump is running.
- During regeneration, water could enter the unit backwards through its valve outlet port leading to the pressure tank.
- Additionally, there is a risk that if the filtration system becomes clogged, it could lead to the well pump short-cycling and potentially burning out.
