Your softener has a small internal memory, but is not able to save your programmed settings forever. If your system has been out of service for a while, we've got some tips below to help you reboot it smoothly. Let's get started!
Supplies Needed: Bucket or wet/dry vac, washcloth
Clean the Salt Tank
1. First, you'll need to empty the salt tank of all water and salt - we recommend using a small bucket or wet/dry vac for this. Salt that's dry and in its original shape (pellet or crystal) can be reused. All dirty or melted salt should be removed and disposed of.
2. Use a damp cloth to wipe out the inside of the tank until it's clean. Be sure to wipe around the inner fiberglass tank and brinewell tube (with number scale).
3. Fill the tank with 3 gallons of fresh water and then add salt. Make sure no salt gets into the brinewell tube. We recommend filling the tank no higher than (halfway) with salt to reduce salt bridging in the future. You can let the salt drop to level 2 before needing to add more.
Check Your Programming
Depending on how long the system was out of service, you may have lost some programming settings. Consult your Owner's Manual or our Programming article for further instruction.
Run a Manual Recharge
Hold the 'Recharge' button for about three seconds until you hear the motor turn on, then let go. The motor will only run for a few seconds - this is normal. You'll see a flashing recharge indicator on the screen for the duration of the cycle. The cycle will last about 2 - 2 1/2 hours.
